Everything in the Universe expresses itself with both feminine & masculine qualities. This is part of Natural Law known as the Principle of Gender. The feminine qualities being the inward, creative expression and the masculine qualities being the outward, active expression. Within the breath, the inhalation is the feminine principle and the exhalation is the masculine principle. Breath work, or pranayama, is a powerful method to bring the expression of the masculine and feminine energies into harmonious union. It only takes 3 minutes of focused breath work to bring these energies into harmony and experience noticeable results. Try long deep breathing for three minutes: Sit with your spine straight, on the floor or in a chair. Hands can be in gyan mudra, or resting in your lap. Take a long, slow, deep inhale relaxing the belly forward, expand the diaphragm & fill the lungs from bottom to top. Keeping the throat & neck relaxed, hold the breath in for a few seconds & then exhale deeply from the top of the lungs to the bottom, flattening the diaphragm & pulling the belly back toward the spine to squeeze out any remaining air. Do this for 3 minutes and notice how you feel with your five senses. Notice any internal body sensations. Try to find any areas of tension or pain inside the body, allow those sensations. Recognize them as little messengers trying to get your attention to that area so they can be healed. Use your concentration to relax those areas so that the tension can release and healing can take place. You must go into the area of pain or tension in order for it to release. Ignoring or resisting through lack of acceptance of the sensation always leads to an increase in the sensation as the body will try harder to make you aware of it so it can be healed. The sensation may appear to go away if ignored long enough or inappropriately medicated away, however that does not mean the dis-ease is rectified. Rather, it means that the body has compensated by creating tension in another area of body thereby pulling it more & more out of alignment and harmony. The body will continue to compensate if the messages of tension and pain are ignored until it eventually shuts down completely. Using the breath to bring awareness to areas of tension is the fastest way, that I know of, to gain awareness of the condition & how to heal it.
